Two days after the Sector 7 robbery that was planned by the domestic servant,police swung into action and carried out house-to-house searches to find details of the house inmates including domestic servants,tenants and paying guests. As many as 40 women personnel drawn from the Rapid Action Force (RAF),that is normally employed in law and order duties and to tackle protests in the city,were deployed. During the searches some of the residents refused to share details while many were not present in their houses and police said that punitive action against the residents who fail to provide details to the police will be taken once the drive is over. The house to house searches started at Sector 7 and the entire operation was supervisied by Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP),Panchkula,Ashwin Shenvi. Police personnel from Sector 5 police station and Sector 7 police post were also employed for the job. Personnel drawn for the job were divided into four teams who carried out searches in Sector 7,officials said,adding that the left out houses will be re-surveyed. Police officers said that the RAF personnel were spared by the Director General of Police,S N Vashisht,for the job after the robbery at the house of retired executive engineer in which besides jewellery,Rs 3 lakh was looted by a gang of seven people. On the first day 70-80 houses were covered during the searches. Police Commissioner,Panchkula-Ambala,range,Rajbir Deswal,said that the house-to-house searches would continue for some days and police is preparing a data base of the people to ensure that no untoward incident is repeated. Police officers said the presence of RAF in the city will help them keep crime in check. Earlier,police had set up special barricades to keep crime under check and patrolling was also carried out to ensure that crime in the city is brought under control,police said. Deputy Commissioner of police,Ashwin Shenvi,said the police have already issued orders under Section 144 of the CrPC asking owners to submit details of their tenants. Even as the police is not pressing to register cases against those who fail to provide the details as of now it will take action against those who are not forthcoming after the drive. Police will ensure that all households are covered in the drive and the house to house searches will continue from time to time to prepare an updated database.
