The Chandigarh Police has booked 16 people in 14 cases during an inspection of immigration firms and consultancy offices in the city.
As per the police, the firms were operating in violation of the District Magistrate’s orders under Section 163 of the BNSS, which mandate registration and verification of all foreign travel and visa agents.
Police officials said that the drive was launched in response to the growing menace of unscrupulous immigration consultancies allegedly luring people with false promises of jobs, education, and settlement abroad. Several firms across sectors 8, 17, 20, 31, 32, 34, 35 and 47 were found to be non-compliant, leading to legal action against both owners and operators.
The firms booked include Visa Path Guru and Next Nation Consultant Company in Sector 8, Truetrust Consultants in Sector 17, Prism Services in Sector 20, Amber Immigration Services and Ruffles Educity in Sector 35, Visa Planet in Sector 31, Balaji Global Pathways and Akal Overseas Consultants in Sector 34, Step to Abroad Education Immigration Consultant in Sector 32, Smart Solution Abroad Consultancy and World Travel Advisor in Sector 34, World Trip Immigration at Piccadilly Square Mall, and Rise World Immigration in Sector 47.
Alongside enforcement, the Chandigarh Police has also stepped up awareness initiatives, urging people to verify the registration status of immigration firms before engaging their services.
