14,000 bottles of illicit liquor seized

As many as 14,000 liquor bottles were seized during a routine inspection of vehicles by Regional Transport Authority Secretary Rajesh Jogpal on the Panchkula-Ramgarh Road last night.

As many as 14,000 liquor bottles were seized during a routine inspection of vehicles by Regional Transport Authority Secretary Rajesh Jogpal on the Panchkula-Ramgarh Road last night.

A truck bearing registration number RJ07G 7698 was signalled to stop and the driver was asked to show documents.

He showed an invoice of 570 bags of rice bran extraction from Kedarnath Badri Prasad Rice Mills,Ludhiana Road,Khanna and said that the consignment was meant for the Surat Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union in Surat. On checking the consignment,the liquor cases were seized.

Though the driver and the cleaner managed to give the slip to the police,the truck has been impounded. The alcohol was meant for sale in Chandigarh only.

District Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Excise),Panchkula,has registered a case under Excise Act and the custody of trucks and goods has been handed over DETC (Excise).
