Despite the Traffic Police impounding over 100 autos in the past month the number of autos plying illegally in the city continues to remain high.
According to information obtained from the police,this year till January 31,the Chandigarh Police has impounded over 101 TSR (tri-scooter rickshaws).
The number of autos which were impounded last year stood at 774.
The majority of autos which impounded have been found to be illegally plying in the city and were were not possessing proper documents.
The police also penalised 291 autos for overloading in the period between January 1 last year till the present date.
A total of 1,440 were also penalised for jumping red lights within the same period.
A total of 12,469 auto were found flouting norms in the given time frame and 15,613 traffic violations were found in this period.
It is not that the police have found only the autos violating traffic norms,as over 1015 buses were penalised for various offences in the last 13 months.
While the Police found 328 bus attendants and 612 bus drivers without proper uniforms and name plates in the given period.
While some traffic violations have seen more people being penalised some have barely opened their account.
In the last 13 months,the police penalised only a
single school bus for
over-speeding and overloading.
Speaking to Newsline,We have been going strict against the school buses and auto rickshaws which have been found flouting norms. The majority of autos which we have impounded were not permitted to ply in the city.
He added that they would now be stating a drive against cycle rickshaws to check for overloading and use of compulsory cycle track.
