Woman gang-raped, robbed in her rented house in Bengaluru; 3 men arrested

Superintendent of Police C K Baba said they received the complaint around 12.30 am Wednesday. Acting immediately on the complaint, three special teams were formed to track down the suspects within hours. A DSP-level officer has been appointed to investigate the case, he added.

The woman, who worked at a salon and lived in rented accommodation, received medical treatment and is reportedly recovering. According to the initial probe, the woman’s popularity with salon customers had irritated other tenants.

One tenant, a teacher, allegedly complained repeatedly to the landlord without resolution. She then enlisted help from her student, who recruited local criminals to intimidate the woman as a misguided attempt to impress his teacher, as per the police probe.

Four people were present in the house during the alleged invasion: two women and two men. The attackers allegedly assaulted the other woman who attempted to resist, locked the men in the bathroom, then dragged the victim to a separate room where they raped her one by one before fleeing with her belongings, a police officer said.

The police charged the accused under sections 70 (gang rape), 127 (wrongful confinement), 118 (causing grievous hurt with dangerous means), 311 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 190 (unlawful assembly), and 324 (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
