Technical snag hits Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line, BMRCL says ‘can rectify issue only at night’
Office-goers and other passengers took to social media and informed that the trains are running at gaps of 10-15 minutes and shared photographs of being stranded during peak office hours.

A technical glitch on Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line early on Tuesday morning led office goers into a tizzy, resulting in long queues and chaos at several Metro stations.
According to officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the technical snag happened because of the replacement of the old UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with a new one engaged in the works related to the unfinished Baiyappanahalli and K R Puram stretch.
A tweet by BMRCL at 7:35 am said, “Expect delays on purple line, due to signaling issues. Staff are working to normalize.”
BMRCL managing director Anjum Parvez said, “The issue will be rectified only at night because we don’t want to disrupt the traffic now. We are running with only 15 trains, four trains short, on the Purple Line because of the snag. As a result, the frequency (waiting) might increase from Majestic (Metro station) onwards. Our priority right now is also to clear the crowd at Majestic. It is a challenging task but we hope to rectify the issue by night.”
Meanwhile, many passengers took to social media to express their anger over the “mismanagement”. Photographs of stranded passengers trying to board a jam-packed train at the Majestic (interchange) Metro station also emerged on social media. According to passengers, the trains were running at gaps of 10-15 minutes during the peak rush hours, when the footfall is usually high.
Some office goers expressed displeasure after missing their shuttle services to offices. A Twitter user, who goes by the name Rao, said, “Thank you CPRO (chief public relation official), I missed my office shuttle. Hope this will not take ages to fix (sic).”
Irked passengers also said that when they exited the Metro stations after not being able to board a train due to the crowd, they were charged Rs 9.5.
