Dengue cases within the municipal limits are on a rise this year, according to statistics shared by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Over 4,323 cases of dengue have been logged by BBMP. From 689 cases in June, it surged to 1,589 in August. In the month of July, there were 1,629 cases within the BBMP limits. From September 1 to September 8, 416 dengue cases have been reported by the Bengaluru civic body. The statistics shared by the civic body shows that while there were 44,863 dengue cases in 2019, the numbers came down to 6,679 in 2020. Similarly, there were 6,166 cases in 2021 and 5,589 cases in 2022. Dakshina Kannada district has registered 198 cases of dengue from January till September 12. However, the health officials have not confirmed any case of death due to the fever. Last week, Karnataka health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao unveiled the Disease Surveillance Dashboard and mobile application PRISM-H (Platform For Research, Integrated Surveillance and Management of Health) at the AI and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) office of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, which will assist policy makers in managing dengue cases. Rao had said that dengue cases were rising due to stagnant water being collected during the rains as it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. He has instructed health officials to remain vigilant. Earlier this month, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had urged BBMP and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to ensure that there is no clogging of water in the city that may become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
