A 31-year software employee killed his wife and two children before dying by suicide in Bengaluru, police said. Though the police suspect that all died on July 31, the deaths came to light on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Veerarjuna Vinay, his wife Hemavathi (29), and daughters Moksha Meghanayana (2) and eight-month-old Srushti Sunayana. All of them lived in the Sai Garden apartment in Seegehalli, located in the tech corridor of Bengaluru.

Vinay, who was a native of Andhra Pradesh, married Hemavathi six years ago and worked as a team lead at a software company in Bengaluru.

A police officer said, “The master bedroom’s bathroom lights were switched on and from 31 July night none stepped out of the house. Vinay’s brother Shesha Sai, an employee of a private firm, tried contacting his brother over the phone but it was switched off.”

Sensing that something was amiss, Shesha Sai travelled from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. When he visited the apartment, he knocked on the door but there was no response. He entered the flat through the window and saw the bodies lying on the floor. He immediately informed the police. The police later shifted the bodies for postmortem.

“We have registered a case of unnatural death and we suspect that Vinay has killed his wife and children before he died by suicide. We suspect he has strangulated his wife and children. We are yet to ascertain the reason behind his death,” said a police officer from Kadugodi police station.
