S-W monsoon begins retreat 3 days early from west Rajasthan: IMD

This year, the southwest monsoon onset over Kerala was realised on May 24. Similar to some criteria essential at the time of monsoon onset, the IMD said that the criteria for the monsoon withdrawal was realised on Sunday. These include the development of an anti-cyclonic circulation over west Rajasthan at 1.5 km above mean sea-level, dry or no rainfall over the region for five days and reduction in moisture over the region up to the mid-troposphere.

According to the Met department, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon passed through Sri Ganganagar, Nagaur, Jodhpur and Barmer.

Over the next two to three days, the monsoon is expected to further withdraw from more areas of Rajasthan, some regions of Gujarat and Punjab.

During the next three days, the IMD has warned of heavy rain over northeast regions and Maharashtra.
