The magistrate heard the case of all 17 accused through videoconferencing from their prisons in Bengaluru and Tumakuru, as their judicial custody ended on Thursday.
On June 11, Darshan was arrested with Gowda and 11 others over the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga. The four other accused people were arrested later.
The special public prosecutor argued that releasing them from prison might affect the investigations as the police had to collect more details related to the case. The prosecution also said the accused had already tried to destroy technical, physical and scientific evidence, arguing that they had no respect for the law of the land.
The prosecution further submitted that Rs 83.65 lakh cash had been seized from the accused. They had called several people before, during and after the crime and had used SIM cards registered in the names of others, the prosecution said. It was further argued that if the accused were granted bail, there was a chance of their destroying evidence.
