Karnataka BJP general secretary Preetham Gowda on Monday distanced himself from the two accused arrested for allegedly leaking the obscene videos involving Hassan Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna.
He told reporters in Bengaluru that none of the two were his aides, though one worked at his office in Hassan. “There are 40-50 people who work in my office. If one person has a video or a pen drive or watched it on a computer, then I am not aware of it,” he said.
On Sunday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the cases of alleged sexual assault by Prajwal Revanna arrested two BJP workers Likith Gowda and Yalagunda Chetan in connection with a complaint registered by the JD(S) for leaking the videos.
Commenting on the arrest of Chetan, Preetham Gowda said that he was a 24-year-old graduate. “If he is taken into custody what is the meaning of it… If you are taking people into custody because they had pen drives or videos in their phones, then in Hassan a minimum of one or 1.5 lakh people will have to be taken into custody. The video was forwarded to everyone,” he said.
Replying to a question, the BJP leader said that he was not linked to the case and the SIT had not called him for questioning.
During the day, experts from Forensic Science Laboratories conducted examinations at the JD(S) MP’s residence at Hassan and JD(S) MLA H D Revanna’s residence at Holenarsipur, Hassan district. The team led by SIT officials arrived with the victims as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.
