4 Bengaluru police officials suspended for falsely implicating youths in drug case

Based on the findings, the police suspended the four officials. (File photo)Four Bengaluru police personnel were Sunday suspended for allegedly implicating two youths in a drug case. Two informants, including a woman, have also been arrested on the charges of misleading the police.
The suspended officials are sub-inspector Sridhar Gugri, assistant sub-inspector S K Raju, and constables Satish Bagali and Thimmanna Poojar. All of them are attached to the Banashankari police station.
According to a police officer, two people were arrested for allegedly peddling drugs near the Cement Road in Kadirenahalli on August 9. The police had claimed that more than 400 gram of opium was seized from the accused.
However, the family members of the accused approached the police stating that they were falsely framed and suspected informant Rajan’s role in it. They filed a complaint with City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, who directed Subramanyapura ACP Girish to conduct an inquiry.
Upon investigation, it was found that police informant Rajan had given false information to the cops. Based on the findings, the police suspended the four officials.
A police officer said Rajan had a personal rivalry with the two who were implicated falsely. The police also carried out the arrests without conducting a proper investigation.
Notably, the Karnataka High Court recently pulled up the Bengaluru police for falsely accusing two students under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act despite a clean chit from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
