Condemning the terror attack that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Wednesday that the intelligence failure of the Centre was the reason. Meanwhile, IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the guts to order Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation.

Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah stated that the Central government had failed to prevent the tragic incident. “I think that there was an intelligence failure of the Central government. Because the Pulwama attack happened in the past, and now again at Pahalgam. So, I think there is a failure on the part of the Central government,” he told reporters.

The CM was of the view that the attack was planned. “Whoever might be (behind the attack), I condemn. Such attacks should not take place,” he said, noting that the state government had taken measures to bring back the stranded tourists hailing from Karnataka.

A team of officials and Labour Minister Santosh Lad were sent to bring them back through a special aircraft, Siddaramaiah said, adding that the government was inclined to provide relief to the families of the two victims of the attack hailing from the state.

“I don’t know whether the state government has provided relief in such cases in the past but the state government is thinking positively in that direction,” he said.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the biggest question was how such a terror attack took place despite the presence of a strong and effective military intelligence system. “In many cases, the military intelligence has done an effective job. Why was there an intelligence failure? Where did the terrorists come from? These are big questions,” he told reporters.

“Some organisations have claimed responsibility for the attack. The Centre should locate these organisations and take action against them. If there is a lapse in intelligence, it will be followed by a security lapse, he said,” urging the Centre to take some strong and decisions to prevent such incidents in the future.

Karnataka IT/BT minister Priyank Kharge, in a post on X, claimed that security lapses were flagged beforehand at both Pulwama and Pahalgam but were ignored.

“This Government will downplay the incident, will underreport the casualties, will definitely use this tragedy to stir communal tension or blame Congress as usual. Does the PM have the guts to order HM Shah’s resignation? Will the RSS’ aggression be limited only to Vijayadashami Utsav speeches and aggression on minorities and Dalits? Do they have it in them to show the PM the door?” he asked in the post.
