Rs 80 lakh loss in online gaming, 3 members of family in Mysuru die by suicide
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation.

Burdened by debts after losing the money they had borrowed in online gaming, three members of a family in Karnataka’s Mysuru district allegedly died by suicide within a span of 24 hours, the police said.
The police have identified the deceased as Jobi Antony, his wife Sharmila alias Swathi, and brother Joshi Antony. According to the police, Jobi and Sharmila had borrowed Rs 80 lakh from various people which they lost in online gaming. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation.
The police said that on Monday, Joshi allegedly died by suicide and the couple killed themselves by Tuesday morning. Before taking the extreme step, Joshi recorded a video, in which he was heard saying, “Sharmila and Jobi availed loans from many people using my sister’s name, who is a widow. Punish Sharmila and Jobi.”
Police said that after the couple learnt about Joshi’s suicide, they also decided to take the extreme step.
Mary, who is Joshi and Jobi’s sister, said, “Jobi and Sharmila were living together but shifted six months ago after people came to their house demanding that they repay the loans. Joshi and I demanded that they return the money borrowed from people. However, they did not heed to our advice, which made Joshi die by suicide.”
Shanthakumar, a family friend, said that he was unaware of the debts the family had piled up. The brothers worked at a mobile shop, he said, adding that Jobi and Sharmila did not visit Joshi’s funeral and later died by suicide.
