(Photo: X/ @OfficialBMRCL)The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Saturday started trial runs on the Green Line’s 3.1-kilometre-long Reach 3C connecting Nagasandra to Madavara. Once this section becomes operational, the Green Line length will increase to 34.46 km and the overall Metro length in Bengaluru will rise to 75.2 km.
Although the BMRCL has not officially announced any date, sources said the section may become operational between October and November. At present, Metro services on the Green Line are available between Silk Institute and Nagasandra.
An official said all technical aspects including signalling will be tested in the coming weeks.
The BMRCL awarded the civil contract to Simplex Infrastructure at a budget of Rs 298.65 crore in February 2017. However, the project has since missed several deadlines.
Meanwhile, Namma Metro created a record footfall on August 14. More than 9,17,000 riders boarded the Metro, creating a new record. The Purple Line accounted for the highest ridership, with 4.43 lakh passengers, followed by the Green Line, which saw 3.01 lakh riders. The Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Station at Majestic handled a significant portion of the traffic, with 1.72 lakh passengers passing through its gates.
