Mysuru Dasara festival to begin on October 3, elephants to start journey on August 21
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said necessary grants would be provided to celebrate Dasara with grandeur and directed that the tableau participating in jamboo safari should be more attractive, meaningful, and diverse.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday announced that the Dasara festival would start on October 3, and the bamboo safari would be held on the tenth day.
Speaking to the media after the high-level meeting on Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara-2024, Siddaramaiah said, “Last year, It was not possible to celebrate the festival in a grand manner due to drought. This time there has been good rain across the state and almost all the reservoirs are full. In this background, it has been decided to celebrate Dasara as a festival of the people.”
Last year, Rs 30 crore was given for the Dasara celebration. This time, necessary grants will be provided to celebrate with grandeur. He also directed that the tableau participating in Dasara jamboo savari should be more attractive, meaningful, and diverse.
The Dasara celebrations will commence at Chamundi Hills on October 3 at 9.15 am. Instructions have been issued to start the exhibition on the day of Dasara’s inauguration, and the departmental secretaries have been directed to arrange for stalls on the same day. The chief minister emphasised that the government’s accomplishments and flagship projects should be showcased in the stalls of all departments at the exhibition.
On August 21, starting at 10.10 am, Gaja Puja will be performed at Veeranahosahalli in Hunsur taluk. The Dasara festival will be held from October 3 to 12. According to tradition, there will be nine days of programmes, and on the 10th day, a jumboo savari will be held. The chief minister said the bamboo safari and Nandi Dwaja puja would happen on October 12, and the procession will start with a puja at 4 pm.
Last year, the lighting arrangements were extended by a week for the convenience of tourists. This time, after Dasara, Siddaramaiah said it had been decided to hold the lighting arrangements for 21 days.
“Cultural programmes, exhibitions, lighting, food fairs, and other events should be organised in a well-planned and meaningful manner. Local artists should be given more opportunities to showcase their talents, and they should be encouraged,” the chief minister said.
The forest department plans to commence ‘Gajapayana’, the movement of elephants from elephant camps to Mysuru, on August 21.
