A prisoner who managed to escape from a court toilet in Mangalore on Wednesday evening, shortly after he was found guilty in a murder case, was tracked down and arrested again on Thursday. The prisoner identified as Akshay was among five members of a gang accused of killing a rival gang member in Mangalore in 2011. The five persons were escorted to the court for the conclusion of their trial by a senior police constable. All five were found guilty of murder by the second additional district and sessions court in Mangalore on Wednesday. Shortly after the court announced his conviction and posted the sentencing in the case to Thursday Akshay sought to be taken to the toilet. The senior constable reportedly escorted him to the toilet along with the others. When Akshay did not return from the toilet the constable who forcibly opened the toilet door found that the convicted man had fled. The police however managed to arrest him again on Thursday morning on the basis of a a tip-off . The Bunder police under whose jurisdiction the case was booked arrested the suspect from a isolated place at Padubidri in Mangalore, a senior official said. The undertrial prisoner Akshay was among five persons accused of murdering Kumara alias Bongu of a rival Pradeep gang at Kavoor in Mangalore in 2011. The five accused - Akshay, Gaurish, Harsharaj, Santosh and Gautham had brutally assaulted and murdered Bongu. Following the escape of Akshay on Wedneday the senior police constable who was in charge of the custody of the accused men has been served with a show-cause notice. Local police officials however said that the senior constable was tasked with guarding five accused persons on his own resulting in the escape.
