The victim, identified as Salma, 35, was a widowed domestic worker living with her four children.A woman was killed and her body abandoned in a discarded auto-rickshaw just yards from a police station in Bengaluru on Friday.
The murder was discovered Saturday evening when passersby noticed the body and alerted authorities. The police have shifted the body for a post-mortem examination.
The victim, identified as Salma, 35, was a widowed domestic worker living with her four children. “Investigations revealed she had been in a relationship with one Subramani, a garment factory employee. Her children reported seeing her leave with Subramani late Friday night,” said a police officer.
CCTV footage from the location showed the couple arguing before Subramani attacked Salma with a blunt weapon, killing her instantly. Following the murder, Subramani allegedly enlisted help from his friend Senthil, a daily-wage labourer, to wrap the body in cloth and dump it in the abandoned auto-rickshaw.
The police have verified the CCTV evidence and corroborated witness statements. Senior officials have launched an intensive manhunt for both suspects, who fled the scene after disposing of the body.
The Tilak Nagar police station has registered a case of murder.
