The Whitefield police in Bengaluru on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly stabbing a bus conductor for asking him not to stand near the door of the vehicle.
The accused has been identified as Harsha Sinha, 25, a native of Jharkhand, who worked in a BPO firm until recently before he was terminated. The victim, Yogesh, 45, was immediately shifted to Vydehi Hospital for treatment, where he was declared out of danger after receiving medical care, according to a statement by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
The police said Sinha was travelling on a BMTC Volvo bus. When it arrived near Vydehi Circle in Whitefield around 5.15 pm, the conductor allegedly warned Sinha against standing near the door.

Enraged, Sinha allegedly took out a knife he was carrying and stabbed Yogesh. The police further said that the accused then tried to stab other passengers forcing them to vacate the bus. The bus driver, Siddalingaswamy locked the door and jumped out, leaving Sinha inside, the cops added. Later, Sinha allegedly took a hammer and started vandalising the bus.
According to an eyewitness who recorded the video of the incident, Sinha claimed that he attended a job interview on Tuesday, but did not get a positive result and was willing to go to jail after committing the crime.
The BMTC statement said, “Yogesh, while performing his duties, instructed a passenger, Harsha Sinha, to move away from the bus’s middle doors for safety reasons. The passenger, however, reacted violently and attacked our conductor, stabbing him in a sudden outburst.”
“Following the attack, Sinha threatened other passengers and demanded they vacate the bus immediately. In a further act of aggression, the assailant used a hammer to damage the bus’s windows and other property. We commend the swift and decisive actions of our driver, Siddalingaswamy, who locked the attacker inside the bus, ensuring the safety of all passengers. With the assistance of passengers, he called the police and emergency services,” said the statement by BMTC.
