The Bengaluru police have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly killing his 17-year-old daughter who had eloped with her Dalit boyfriend. The accused, a resident of Mysuru, surrendered before the police after killing his daughter at their relative's house in Bengaluru around 10 am Saturday. A police officer said the victim was in love with a Dalit youth but her father objected to the relationship as they belonged to the Vokkaliga Gowda community. "The accused made her quit the college and sent her to a relative's place in Bengaluru with the intention that she should not meet her boyfriend," said a police officer. The victim stayed with her mother's sister in Bengaluru. On October 14, she went missing, and her father and mother reached Bengaluru. On October 18, they filed a police complaint and two days later, the police found her with her boyfriend. The police arrested her boyfriend and registered a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case against him. On Saturday, the accused attacked the victim with a machete, saying he had lost his prestige in the village because of her relationship with the Dalit youth. She died of injuries, while her mother also sustained injuries in the attack as she tried to intervene. The police registered a murder case and sent the accused to judicial custody.
