Man dies after falling off 4th floor of Bengaluru building, wife accuses paramour of murder

Sources in the police said they suspect that a property dispute could be the motive behind the complaint, as the preliminary investigation indicated that it was an accidental death

The wife of a Bengaluru-based businessman Thursday filed a complaint of murder against the man’s paramour after he fell from the fourth floor of a building and died.

According to the police, the man, 63-year-old Maranjanappa was at his paramour Geetha’s residence on Wednesday when he fell from the fourth floor. On Thursday, Maranjanappa’s wife Umadevi approached the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police and filed a complaint against Geetha.

In her complaint, Umadevi alleged that her husband was in an illicit relationship with Geetha. “My husband went to her house at around 10 pm on August 30. This (Thursday) morning at 6 am, one Venkatesh, who is employed by us, said my husband was admitted to the hospital at midnight,” the complaint read.

She then alleged that when the family members inspected the body, there were bite marks and assault injuries apart from a broken leg and accused Geetha of murdering her husband.

Sources in the police said they suspect that a property dispute could be the motive behind the complaint, as the preliminary investigation indicated that it was an accidental death. “He fell from the fourth floor and died when he was at his paramour’s house,” sources said.

The police have registered an FIR for alleged murder based on the complaint by Umadevi.
