After disruption by miscreants, Karnataka HC to resume video access to proceedings under new guidelines from December 11

The high court issued fresh guidelines that make it mandatory for all lawyers, litigants, and media houses to register with Zoom using email IDs enlisted in the HC registry.

The registry of the Karnataka High Court has come out with a fresh set of guidelines for video access to court proceedings. Video access was suspended after unidentified miscreants aired sexual content during high court video proceedings on December 4.

The high court issued fresh guidelines that make it mandatory for all lawyers, litigants, and media houses to register with Zoom using email IDs enlisted in the HC registry. Video proceedings will resume Monday under the new guidelines, the registrar (computers) of the high court stated Saturday.

The Bengaluru police registered an FIR under Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, after the December 4 incident. The FIR was filed based on a complaint by N Suresh, registrar (computers) of the Karnataka High Court.

According to the complaint, video conference proceedings in court halls 6, 12, 18, 23, 24, and 26 were disrupted after sexually explicit content was transmitted from two IP addresses.

The chief justice said, “An unfortunate situation has arisen. We are not permitting video conferencing facilities, live streaming facilities. Unfortunately, some mischief is being played.”
