Karnataka govt shuts down school after principal held for raping class 2 student

Officials said the school was being run illegally, having obtained permission in Koramangala but was constructed in another part of the city. The Block Education Officer issued closure orders as it flouted rules.

The Karnataka education department has shut down a school in Bengaluru and shifted around 140 students after the owner-principal was arrested for allegedly raping a Class 2 student on the premises.

Officials said the school was being run illegally, having obtained permission in Koramangala but was constructed in another part of the city. The Block Education Officer issued closure orders as it flouted rules.

Around 140 students have been admitted to nearby schools at government-set fees. Parents and staff did not object to the move, sources said.

On August 3, the 65-year-old owner-principal had allegedly raped the dyslexic girl after luring her to his on-campus home. The child of a single parent complained of pain later. Seeing bruises, the mother got her medically examined and rape was confirmed.
