Karnataka: Congress announces candidate to take on CM Bommai

The Congress announced its candidate from Shiggaon, Mohammed Yousuf Savanur, who will contest against Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The Congress Tuesday announced its candidate from Shiggaon, Mohammed Yousuf Savanur, who will contest against Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. The Congress fielded Syed Azeempuri Khadri from the constituency in the last three elections.

Savanur was one of the aspirants for the Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency, where the Congress has fielded former CM Jagadish Shettar, who joined the party after quitting the BJP Monday. Seven candidates were announced in the fourth list. The total number of candidates announced till now is 216, with eight seats left.

H D Thammaiah, a BJP leader who joined the Congress recently, will take on BJP general secretary and MLA C T Ravi in Chikmagaluru. S Ramappa, sitting MLA from Harihar was dropped, and Nandagavi Srinivas will contest in the segment. Another sitting MLA, D S Hoolageri, has retained his ticket from the Lingsugur constituency.

The constituencies for which the Congress is yet to announce candidates are Pulakeshinagar, CV Raman Nagar, Mulbagal, Raichur City, Arkalgud, Mangalore North, Sidlaghatta, and KR Puram.
