Foxconn plans to start iPhone manufacturing in Karnataka by April 2024: Minister M B Patil

Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil said Thursday that Foxconn, a major supplier for Apple, has plans to start iPhone manufacturing in the state by April 2024. He said the government would hand over land to the Taiwanese company by July 1.

“The identified 300 acres of land at ITIR (information technology investment region) of Devanahalli would be handed over by July 1, 2023. Along with this, the government would ensure providing 5 MLD of water, quality power supply, road connectivity and other infrastructure facilities. With this, the new government has speeded up the process of the Rs 13,600 crore project, which is expected to create 50,000 jobs,” said the minister for large and medium industries.

A Foxconn delegation met Patil in Bengaluru. Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge was also present.

“The company has been asked to provide details of the skill sets it seeks in employees. Accordingly, steps will be taken to facilitate training programmes for eligible candidates to make them employable,” Patil said.

“The Taiwan-based global company has already paid 30 per cent of the cost of the land (Rs 90 crore) to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board. It has set the goal to complete the project in three phases and set a target of manufacturing 20 million units (2 crore units) annually from the plant after the completion of three phases,” a statement from the office of the minister said.
