A 20-year-old dental student in Bengaluru was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a police sub-inspector following a verbal altercation with a BMTC bus conductor over an issue related to a student pass. The student, identified as Mounesh, is a resident of Vidyaranyapura and student of KLE dental college located on Tumakuru road. The incident took place on Wednesday when Mounesh had taken a bus from Gangammana Gudi circle to go to his college. When the bus conductor asked him to buy a ticket, Mounesh said that he has a student pass and the conductor asked him to show his college ID. When Mounesh showed the photo copy of the college ID, the conductor was asked to show him the original one. Mounesh then abused conductor and said: “If a woman show the photo copy, you won’t ask for the original ID. Why do you want men to show it then?” As the verbal altercation intensified, the driver of the bus stopped the vehicle in front of Peenya police station to file a complaint. By then, Mounesh had called his cousin brother Sharath and told him about the incident and the duo created a ruckus inside the police station. Meanwhile, sub-inspector Siddu Hugar, who was inside his cabin, came out and Mounesh kicked him. The police personnel inside the station then defused the situation. Both the bus conductor and sub-inspector Hugar filed separate complaints against Mounesh. Mounesh's father Raju, who had gotten information about the incident, also rushed to the police station. Raju, while addressing reporters at the scene, said that Mounesh had appeared for The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) but his result was not what he expected. “He is a soft-spoken boy and never gets into fights. The police have beaten him up,” he added. Mounesh is presently in police custody for further interrogation.
