Caught for ‘malpractice’, first-year BTech student in Bengaluru dies by suicide

Nineteen-year-old Aditya Prabhu's father Ganesh Prabhu has filed a police complaint against the college management, principal and other staff, holding them responsible for his son's death.

A BTech student of PES University in Bengaluru died by suicide on the campus after he was reportedly caught for malpractice during an examination on Monday. According to the police, the college informed them that the student was caught with a mobile phone in an exam hall and sent out.

Officers identified the deceased as Aditya Prabhu, 19, a native of Mangaluru who lived in a flat on Bannerghatta Road and was a first-semester student of BTech (Computer Science). His father has filed a police complaint.

According to police sources, around 11.30 am on Monday, an invigilator saw Aditya using a mobile phone inside the examination hall. The invigilator confiscated the device and escorted Aditya to an adjacent room, where he received counselling from other faculty members. They informed him that his parents would be notified about the incident. Distressed upon hearing this news, Aditya abruptly left the room and took the extreme step sometime between 12.30 pm and 1 pm.

Aditya’s father Ganesh Prabhu, who is a private company employee, has filed a complaint against the college management, principal and other staff, holding them responsible for his son’s death.
