Bengaluru Metro: Operations on Whitefield-Challaghatta stretch could start on Friday after safety nod
BMRCL Managing Director Anjum Parvez said, “We are waiting for the CMRS to inspect the stretch between Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram and Kengeri-Challaghatta and then give a clearance."

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is all set to start operations between Whitefield and Challaghatta on September 15, Friday, once the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspects and certifies the stretch between KR Puram-Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri-Challaghatta.
BMRCL Managing Director Anjum Parvez said, “We are waiting for the CMRS to inspect the stretch between Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram and Kengeri-Challaghatta and then give a clearance. We have also requested the CMRS to expedite the inspection. If this happens soon, we can begin operations on the Whitefield-Challaghatta stretch from September 15.”
The missing link between Baiyappanahalli and KR Puram and the extension to Challaghatta from Kengeri is part of the Metro’s Purple Line connecting east and west Bengaluru. Once the operations start, BMRCL is expecting an increase in daily footfall from 75,000 to nearly 1 lakh.
The 12.75-km stretch between Whitefield and KR Puram, which is part of the Purple Line, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March this year, weeks before the Assembly elections in the state. The Whitefield-KR Puram stretch currently carries around 30,000 passengers on average per day, most of whom are IT professionals.
