Kerala man jumps onto Bengaluru Metro tracks, gets hit by arriving train and receives electric shock

In less than a week’s time after a woman jumped onto the Metro rail tracks in Bengaluru to retrieve her mobile phone, a 23-year-old man on Friday evening jumped before an arriving Metro train at the Jalahalli Metro station.

According to the officials, the man not only got hit by the arriving train but also received electric shock. The man, identified as Sharon, a native of Kerala, is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

According to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the man was waiting at the end of the platform at the Jalahalli Metro station. When he saw a train arriving at the platform, he jumped onto the tracks. The BMRCL staff present at the station swung into action immediately and rescued the passenger before shifting him to a private hospital.

The incident took place at 7.12 pm. Following the incident, four trains were held at different stations and all commuters had to be evacuated from them.

The incident also led to the disruption of operations on the Green Line with the BMRCL briefly carrying out operations only between Yeshwanthpur and Silk Institute Metro stations. The BMRCL later said normalcy on the entire Green Line was restored by 8 pm.

According to the Peenya police, which is investigating the incident, a probe is on to ascertain if Sharon tried to die by suicide.

On January 1, a woman jumped onto the tracks at the Indiranagar Nagar Metro station to retrieve her mobile phone which she had dropped inadvertently.

Alert staff members of the BMRCL immediately cut off the power supply to the third rail in order to avoid any untoward incident. The woman, after retrieving her mobile phone, got back onto the platform with the help of co-passengers.
