A Bengaluru techie couple waiting for an Xbox controller from e-commerce giant Amazon was shocked to find a live snake stuck to the packaging tape of the consignment they received on Sunday.
The wife, identified as Tanvi, recorded a video showing the consignment and shared it on social media. She said she heard a ‘hiss’ sound after receiving the order. Suspecting something was wrong, she checked and found a snake stuck to the tape, unable to move.
Tanvi also took to Reddit to narrate the horrifying experience: “We ordered an Xbox controller two days ago from Amazon and received a live snake in the package. The package was directly handed over to us by the delivery partner (not left outside). We live on Sarjapur road and captured the entire incident on camera, plus we have eyewitnesses to the same.”
She said the snake has been identified as a spectacled cobra, a highly venomous snake species indigenous to Karnataka. “Fortunately, it was stuck to the packaging tape and did not harm anyone in our household or apartment,” she added.
She said that despite the danger, Amazon’s customer support put them on hold for over around two hours, forcing them to handle the situation all by themselves in the middle of the night, adding that she had videos and photos to prove it.
A family ordered an Xbox controller on Amazon and ended up getting a live cobra in Sarjapur Road. Luckily, the venomous snake was stuck to the packaging tape. India is not for beginners 💀

“We did receive a complete refund, but what do we get for risking our lives here with a highly venomous snake? This is clearly a safety breach caused solely by Amazon’s negligence and their poor transportation/warehousing hygiene and supervision. Where is the accountability for such a serious lapse in safety?” she asked.
She said they did not intend to go to extreme lengths in this situation as they were “simple software engineers making a living.”
“It would help if we could find a way that is straightforward and easy as we strongly believe we need to be compensated,” she added.
According to news agency PTI, Amazon was investigating the matter. “The safety of our customers, employees and associates is a top priority for us. We work hard to provide customers with a trustworthy shopping experience and it’s our commitment to go above and beyond to make things right for them. We take all customer complaints seriously and are investigating this incident,” an Amazon spokesperson told PTI.
