Six gelatin sticks and a few detonators were found inside a bag that was left unattended at a bus stand located in the heart of Bengaluru city on Wednesday, the police said.

The incident came to light around 1.15 pm at the Kalasipalya bus stand. According to Mallapa R Kattimani, Assistant Traffic Superintendent of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), around 1.15 pm, security guards Prabhavathi and Raju noticed a bag that someone had apparently abandoned near the toilet of the bus stand.

Kattimani informed the police control room of the explosives found at the bus stand.
S Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said the police and the anti-bomb squad visited the spot.

“We have found six gelatin sticks and seven-eight detonators. It was separate and not connected. During the probe, it has been found that someone has carried the bag and kept it there,” he added.
Girish said that it did not appear prima facie that whoever placed the gelatin sticks and detonators had any intention to cause any explosion, adding that they had been kept separate and were probably meant for use in quarries, the police said.

The Kalasipalya police have booked a case under sections 4, 5, 6(a), and 6(b) of the Explosive Substance Act and sections 288, 61(1)(a), and 61(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, on charges including negligent conduct regarding explosive substances and criminal conspiracy.
