Three college girls drowned in a swimming pool at a Mangaluru resort on Sunday.

The victims, identified as Nishita M D, 21, Parvati S, 20, and Keerthana N, 21, were final-year engineering students in Mysuru. The group had checked into the Vazco resort on November 16.

According to the police, Nishita entered the pool despite not knowing how to swim. When she struggled, Parvati jumped in to save her but also started drowning. Keerthana then attempted to rescue both but failed and all three drowned.

Anupam Agrawal, Police Commissioner, Mangaluru, who visited the spot, confirmed the deaths were due to accidental drowning. He stated there were severe lapses in safety measures at the resort, including the absence of lifeguards, life-saving equipment, and proper signage regarding pool depth.

“CCTV footage shows the victims crying for help, yet no one intervened,” Agrawal added. According to reports, seven resort employees were on duty during the incident. Their response is under police scrutiny.
