The Bengaluru police said Tuesday they have arrested three men, including the victim’s boyfriend, for allegedly killing a 45-year-old trans woman earlier this month from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, the arrested men have been identified as Jagadeesh, 29; Prabhakar, 34; and Sushanth, 32, all residents of Bengaluru. The police said the body of Naveen Kumar alias Tanushree was found in a decomposed state at her home under the K R Puram police limits on April 20.

It is learnt that Jagadeesh, who is married and lives with his wife and children, and Tanushree were in a relationship for the past few years. The police said Tanushree and Jagadeesh met at a public event, and that the victim recently started asking him to marry her. Jagadeesh, who works as a cab driver, was also being pressured by Tanushree’s friends to marry her.

The police said Tanushree also threatened to share some private videos with his family and friends, and also even confronted him at his house with other transgender people. Jagadeesh then decided to kill Tanushree, said the police.

On April 17, Jagadeesh visited Tanushree’s house with the other accused, and had a party. He then allegedly stabbed her to death, and all three left for a religious trip to Tirupati, where they shaved their heads, according to the police.

According to the complaint filed by R Pradeep Kumar, the brother of Tanushree, who underwent a gender surgery in 2014, worked with NGOs. Kumar said Tanushree told her family members that she had married Jagadeesh.
