Youth set on fire by masked man, rescued by neighbours

A 25-year-old man is critical after he was set on fire by a masked attacker at his house in Bharuch town’s Aali area Monday, said police. Rescued by neighbours, Kalubhai Vasava, the youth, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, officials added.

Bharuch District SP Mayur Chavda said, “The youth incurred severe injuries and is still critical. He has said he has no enmity with anybody and also could not recognise the masked accused. We are trying to identify the attacker. We will also check at his workplace to find clues. We are also talking to his friends and family.”

On Monday, Kalubhai Vasava was alone at home when the incident happened. He was woken up by incessant knocking at the door.

The accused threw petrol, packed in a plastic bag, at Kishan, lit up fire and escaped, police were told.

Neighbours then heard Vasava pleading for help, rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital. Police have registered an attempt to murder case.
