World Bank to sanction Rs 700 crore for urban projects

The World Bank has assured the state government to sanction various urban development projects worth Rs 700 crore in all major cities at the earliest

The World Bank has assured the state government to sanction various urban development projects worth Rs 700 crore in all major cities at the earliest. Sources said development projects will be initiated at Jamnagar,Bhavnagar,Junagadh,Surendranagar,Wadhwan,Anand,Bharuch,Vadnagar,Gandhidham,Veraval and Patan.

This was declared by senior Urban Development expert Richard Clifford during a meeting with State Urban Development Minister Nitin Patel and senior officials in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.

Later,an official statement said Clifford has also assured that the World Bank would sanction another Rs 800 crore in the second phase of the programme under which the projects of modernisation and upgrade of urban infrastructure would be undertaken.

At the meeting,Urban Development Minister Patel apprised the WB officials of the infrastructure projects being implemented in major cities,particularly those sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission.
