Family tiffs might have forced Akruti to take the drastic step, say cops
A 28-year-old woman committed suicide along with her four-year-old daughter by jumping into the Tapi on Friday evening.
The body of the woman has been fished out by the fire brigade, while a search is still on for her daughter.
According to sources,Akruti Arvind Mithia (28),a resident of Resham Bhavan Society near Bombay market at Sahara Darwaja in Surat, left her house with her daughter Devashree, without informing anybody,on Friday evening.
She went to the Sardar Bridge and after tying her daughter to herself with a dupatta, jumped into the river.
Several passers-by who spotted the incident immediately informed the fire brigade.
The fire brigade staff rushed to the spot and after a two-hour long search, fished out Akrutis body from the river.
Assistant Commissioner of Police N R Jadav said: Akruti had married Arvind,a textile businessman, some five years ago. The couple and their child stayed jointly along with two other brothers of Arvind. They all had the same family business.
He added: The couple wanted to stay in a separate house because of which there were frequent quarrels in the family. We suspect this might have driven her to take this drastic step.
Javad said they have now asked Akrutis parents to come from Junagadh for the investigations.
