Even as crores of devotees are thronging Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for the Maha Kumbh, Gujarat is set to host its own “Maha Kumbh” – Shakti Peeth Parikrama Mahotsav – to be held at Ambaji Shakti Peeth located in Danta tehsil of Banaskantha district, said an official release Thursday. The mahotsav will be held at Ambaji, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of the country, from February 9 to 11, the release added.
The Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board (GPYVB) will hold the event in collaboration with the district administration. The event is expected to witness the participation of around 15 lakh devotees.
As per the release, this tradition of the Parikrama Mahotsav was initiated in 2004 by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Amid the grandeur of the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, Gujarat is set to host its own Maha Kumbh. This sacred gathering will offer devotees not only a chance to deepen their faith but also the unique opportunity to undertake the Parikrama of all 51 Shakti Peeths in one place within their lifetime,” the release stated.
“The Ambaji Shakti Peeth is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peeths dedicated to Goddess Parvati. In 2004, the then CM Modi envisioned and initiated the creation of replicas of the remaining Shakti Peeths at Ambaji. The construction was completed in 2014…Originally organised on a small scale by the temple trust, the Parikrama Mahotsav was transformed into a major event in 2022 through the collaboration of the state government, GPYVB, and the district administration,” it added.
Quoting Member Secretary of GPYVB, Ramesh Merja, the release said, “The 51 Shakti Peeth Mahotsav is held annually at Ambaji from Maha Sud 12 to Maha Sud 14, and this year, the event will take place from February 9 to 11. The GPYVB, in collaboration with the Banaskantha district administration, has arranged all necessary facilities, including free meals, for the Mahotsav.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to visit the Maha Kumbh to take a holy dip at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Friday. As per a statement from the CM’s office, Patel will take a holy bath at the Triveni Sangam at 12.30 pm. Before that, he will seek blessings at the temple of Bade Hanumanji at Prayagraj in the morning. During his visit, the CM will visit the Gujarat Pavilion set up by the state’s tourism department at Prayagraj.
