No arrests made, top official names five suspects for planting firearms
Investigations into the recovery of two 9mm pistols and a mysterious packet containing ammonia nitrate from the car of the general manager of Welspun Company is yet to make any headway.
The police claim not to have found any evidence against General Manager Samirkumar Krishnakumarsinh Rajput.
Bharuch Superintendent of Police Raghavendra Vats said: We have interrogated Rajput thoroughly. It seems he does not have any idea about how the weapons got into his vehicle. We cannot put him behind bars for finding weapons in his car of which he does not have any idea, unless the matter is thoroughly investigated, said Vats.
Rajput, who does not have any Arms License, later on Sunday evening, named five people
who could have possibly planted the weapons and the explosives in the car.
Elsewhere, company officials have also said that union workers in the Dahej Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the surrounding areas are increasingly threatening the company owners.
The Local Crime Branch had found the weapons from Rajput’s car (MH12-H-1584),during a routine patrol on the Bharuch-Dahej road near Munshi Vidyadham School,at 11 PM on Saturday night.
An LCB officer said: There was an anonymous call to the police about a red Honda car bearing the number 1584. A packet containing mysterious white substance and two foreign-made pistols worth Rs 1 lakh were kept beneath the spare wheel of the car. The Forensic Science Laboratory later confirmed the white powder as ammonia nitrate.
Later, during Rajput’s interrogation on Sunday,LCB Inspector A S Saiyyed learnt about the problems in the Welspun company due to the split in the Workers’ Union.
Rajput has named five others in the case, who he suspects of planting the pistols and the powder in his car. These people were allegedly negotiating with the unions, but we cannot reveal their names now, said Saiyyed.
He added that Rajput even gave them details of his arrival and departure from the company’s office after the completion of his work.
