Waterlogging during monsoon in several parts of the city will become a thing of the past barring unforeseen circumstances,so claim civic authorities who base their optimism on laying of the stormwater drainage line network.

The unforeseen circumstances include situations when the downpour continues for over an hour and is more than an inch.

R R Varsani, director of JNNURM projects in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC),said waterlogging in many parts of the city is less likely because of the new drainage network laid at a cost of around Rs 300 crore over the last two years right from Naroda to Pirana via Maninagar. There are 278 spots of waterlogging in the city and this figure is based on the data AMC has collected over the last 25 years,he said.
