Chief Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Water and Sanitation Management Organisation (WASMO) for winning the United Nations Public Service Award 2009 in the category of Fostering participation in policy-making decisions through innovative mechanisms. The award is given by the United Nations Division for Public Economic and Public Administration,New York,for institutionalisation of community-managed drinking water supply programme and user-level water quality, an official release said on Tuesday. The internationally acclaimed award is conferred on WASMO for its contribution in improving the public administration,said the release. V S Gadhvi,Secretary,Water Supply,presented the award and certificate to the Chief Minister at his Gandhinagar office in the presence of State Water Supply Minister Nitin Patel. WASMO chief executive officer Jaipal Singh and other officials were also present on the occasion. WASMO was also awarded the Prime Ministers Award for Excellence in Public Administration last year,the release said.
