A joint venture between Vadodara Municipal Corporation and GAIL (India) Limited to supply piped natural gas (PNG) is yet to show results after 16 months. When the MoU was signed in October 2009,GAIL and VMC officials announced that residents would start getting the connections in six months. However, the project is still on the anvil. The steering committee was to prepare a draft project and decide on the time to complete the project. But it never happened as the GAIL officials concerned with the project sit in Delhi and most of the correspondence is done through emails. At times,it is necessary to have their physical presence for fast decision-making, said a GAIL official. VMC and GAIL had shortlisted at least four companies to decide the asset value of the existing setup of PNG. It is not that there is no development after the MoU was signed. We are through with the formalities. Now it is up to the GAIL officials. We are yet to hear from them about the asset valuation, said Gas Project Department in-charge Shailesh Naik, who is also part of the three-member VMC committee.
