The residents of Datt Nagar Society located on Dabhoi Road,like the residents in other parts of the city,paid the price for Vadodara Municipal Corporations (VMC) failure to complete development works before monsoon. The irate residents,who did not receive any response to their complaint about waterlogging in their area,approached the ward office and even beat up a VMC employee. The civic body employee who was not associated with the issue lodged a complaint against the mob at Wadi police station. Congress corporator Chandrakant Bhatthu said such incidents are bound to happen. He said,The area has been facing the problem of waterlogging for years,but the VMC has hardly bothered to solve the issue for good. Even orders by the municipal commissioner to stop all works by June 30 were hardly followed by the contractors. The residents resorted to this action as their problem was ignored. VMC Executive Engineer Amrut Makwana admitted that the only option to drain water out of the low-lying areas on Dabhoi Road is by installing pumps. The residents will have to wait till the next monsoon when we will be able to solve the problem on a permanent basis by providing proper stormwater drainage system. As far as Fridays incident is concerned,we had received the complaint and it took us a day to solve it,but locals lost their patience and that resulted into the incident. Following the incident,VMC decided to install the diesel pumps. That is the only temporary arrangement we could do at the moment. There was a problem of electricity supply for the pumps,but most probably we will get the connection and the pumps will be installed soon to avoid waterlogging again, Makwana added.
