Vision loss impact: Flow of patients in C H Nagri Hospital may drop by 15 %

Flow of patients in C H Nagri Eye Hospital is set to drop by 10 to 15 per cent after 15 people complained loss of vision after a drug was injected in their eyes there on January 13, officials said.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Hospitals) I K Patel, who is tracking developments in the case, admitted that the number of patients would fell by nearly fifteen per cent. “After the incident, the reputation of hospital has definitely suffered and a 10 to 15 per cent decline in number of patients is likely to be seen,” said Patel.
As per the official record, on December 20, 2015, as many as 109 patients came to its OPD and 268 old cases were under treatment. The record stated that within a month, on January 20, 2016, the number of new case fell to 99 and the number of old cases under treatment declined drastically to 186.
The drug that was injected, Avastin, was a costly and imported from Switzerland and given at a subsidised rate in the hospital. An initial inquiry by three leading doctors has not found any fault with the doctors concerned, but pending clearance to samples of the batch sent for examination to Food and Drug Control Administration, Avastin use has been suspended in Gujarat.
