(Representational lImage)After vegetable vendors at a local market were allegedly robbed at knifepoint of Rs 8,000, a search has been launched by Bapod police station in Vadodara in search of an accused.
Jaffar, the accused, along with his arrested accomplice Sufiyan, had been harassing vegetable vendors in the area for a couple of weeks, police said on Monday.
Police Inspector CP Vaghela and his team of officers from Bapod police station apprehended Sufiyan Mohammad Hussan Saiyyed, a resident of Ajwa Road, for allegedly extorting money from vegetable vendors.
According to police, the accused extorted around Rs 1,200 from each vendor and have collected Rs 8,000 from at least five vendors so far.
“We received the complaint from one of the vendors last week and immediately apprehended one of the two accused during patrolling when the accused was committing robbery. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody while we are looking for his accomplice named Jaffar,” Vaghela told The Indian Express.
The two accused have been booked under IPC for robbery (392), among others, said investigating officials.
