Vadodara: Man in police custody tries to commit suicide by slitting his throat

While the cops were caught off guard, officers say Nayak was “quick” in attempting suicide.

An outlawed offender, who was in the custody of police, attempted to commit suicide by slashing his throat, inside Vadodara’s Lal Court area on Thursday evening.

According to police officers, 27-year-old Mahesh Nayak, who was externed from the city two years ago following several criminal cases against him, was caught by the police on demolition cover duty in the Kamatipura area of the city, earlier this week.

Nayak was being produced in court on Thursday when he attacked himself. Police officials said that he picked up a sharp object lying in the court premises and tried to slit his throat, leading to much upheaval in the court premises.

While the cops were caught off guard, officers say Nayak was “quick” in attempting suicide.

The police officers immediately called in the Emergency 108 ambulance and rushed Nayak to SSG hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Nayak, who was externed in November 2012, is said to be in a critical condition as he had lost much blood.
