Union Minister of Railways and Textiles, Darshana Jardosh, on Tuesday flagged off the Vadodara-Dahod MEMU train, comprising three-phase mainline electric multiple unit with rakes resembling the Mumbai suburban local trains, designed to have an internal announcement system and digital display.
The train also has the a air-spring technology used in the Vande Bharat coaches to make high-speed running smooth, officials said.
Further, each of the 12 coaches will have eight CCTV cameras and bio-toilets. Each coach has a seating capacity of 85 passengers, with a total capacity to accommodate 900 passengers. In all, the train can accommodate 2900 people, including those standing.
The train will be the third one between Vadodara and Dahod. Speaking at the event, Jardosh applauded the efforts of Vadodara MP Ranjan Bhatt and Dahod MP Jasvantsinh Bhabhor in having the Railways commission the third MEMU between Vadodara and Dahod.
The train will depart from Vadodara at 8.45 am and arrive in Dahod at 12.45 pm. It will again depart from Dahod at 3.50 pm and arrive in Vadodara by 7.55 pm everyday, beginning Wednesday. The train will take about four hours to cover the distance between Vadodara and Dahod on both routes. Jardosh said.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to make the belt from Vadodara to Dahod an industrial belt. This MEMU is the latest version of rakes and it connects the stretch, especially the tribal areas… It will halt at the most important stations between Vadodara-Godhra and Dahod.”
Bhatt added, “A special feature of the train is the coach for women. Also, while usually, intercity trains have no toilets, this train has bio-toilets.”
Vadodara Divisional Railway Manager Jitendra Singh said that the three-phased MEMU is designed to re-generate power through a technologically advanced regenerative braking system, which feeds the energy back to the overhead supply line, thus, saving 30 per cent power.
