A 47-year-old man wanted for allegedly stealing two laptops from his roommate in 2014 was caught by the Vadodara city Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Monday, after 11 years on the run. The police tracked him down to Thane district in Maharashtra using detailed technical surveillance.

The police identified the accused as Sachin Masu Gaigawle.

The Vadodara DCB pinned down Gaigawle’s location to Kalyan in Maharashtra, where he had been living for the past few years.

According to the FIR lodged at Vadodara’s Fatehgunj police station in April 2014, Gaigawle had been accused of an alleged theft of two laptops of his roommate, which had gone missing in February 2014.

According to the police, a warrant to arrest Gaigawle had also been issued by a court under the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) but the accused remained absconding.

Providing details of the incident, Police Inspector RG Jadeja said, “As part of the drive to track down the accused persons, who have been on the run for over 10 years, we have formed teams for several crimes… There are teams to also track down accused in offences that are not heinous. Accordingly, the accused was traced to Maharashtra in a theft case, lodged at Fatehgunj police station in 2014…”
