Two policemen were allegedly mugged by bootleggers and his associates in the Naroda area when they were out for Navratri.
VN Yadav, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City (G-Division) told The Indian Express, “Two policemen, one from Gandhinagar SMC (Special Monitoring Cell) and one from Ahmedabad City, were out last night (Tuesday) on their Activa and they were stopped by some bootleggers. The bootleggers started abusing the policemen, asking what were they doing there and they took mobile phones and Rs 5,000 cash from the officers. We have arrested four people this morning and the other four are absconding at the moment.” The policemen were out for Navratri in civilian clothes, the officer said.
The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 114 (abettor present when offence is committed).
Sanjay Bhatiya, Naroda police inspector, said, “One of the absconding Jignesh Solanki, a local bootlegger, has 14 prohibition criminal cases against him at the moment.”
Bhatiya stated that Solanki was also involved in a similar incident of thrashing cops on video that went viral on social media and the case was registered by Naroda Police Station in January 2022.
