A truck driver was strangulated to death by unidentified miscreants near Dumad chowkdi on National Highway No. 8 in the wee hours of Tuesday. Vadodara Taluka Police officers said that the accused dumped the victim,Madan Lal Sharma (40),near a cattle farm in Dumad village and made away with the truck, which was laden with apples.
According Inspector D A Chauhan,Sharma,a resident of Chandigarh, was taken to the Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
In his statement,Om Prakash, cleaner of the truck, said that they met five people in Umreth who offered them tea. He felt uneasy after drinking the tea and went off to sleep inside the truck. He suspects that the five attacked Sharma and took the truck. When Om Prakash woke up,he found himself tied with a rope and immediately called the police. Sharma was found one kilometer ahead of where Om Prakash was dropped, Chauhan said.
He added that the case was transferred to the Umreth Police station on Wednesday. We are not sure where the loot happened. Both Sharma and Om Prakash, however, were dropped near Dumad. As per the statement of the cleaner,we have referred the case to the Umreth Police station, Chauhan said.
Meanwhile,a constable with the Taluka Police was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the same village close to the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Express Highway on Monday.
Vadodara Superintendent of Police,B S Jebaliya, however, said that the deaths of the constable and the truck driver have no connection whatsoever.
We are not leaving any loopholes. We have not got the postmortem report of the deceased constable. However,it looks like he suffered from a haemorrhage, added Jebaliya.
