The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police on Tuesday seized Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth nearly Rs 3 lakh from a vehicle of a private transport company. Officials also made an arrest in the case.
As per a DCB statement, the police were informed that liquor was being smuggled to different cities of the dry state on vehicles of the transport firm in Ahmedabad, after which an investigation was launched.
A team of investigators was later informed that a large quantity of IMFL had been ordered from the neighbouring state of Rajasthan that was on its way to Ahmedabad in one of the vehicles of Guru Logistics Transport, a firm based in Idgah road near Prem Darwaza. After the DCB team were told that the man, who had ordered the liquor, was going to receive it, it kept a watch. Subsequently, the team spotted a truck carrying the IMFL.
The DCB team found 180 750-ml bottles of liquor of different brands in the truck that were valued at Rs 2,94,836. The liquor, two mobile phones and the vehicle, were seized. The arrested accused, identified as Rajpalsinh Kishorsinh Mahobatsinh Rathod (24), a resident of Rajkot city, was driving the vehicle. Another accused, Yash Munna Thakar, is absconding, police said.
